What is the Lisboa Card and what it includes

The Lisboa Card is Lisbon's city pass. It runs for 24, 48 or 72 hours from the moment you first use it and combines free public transport with free or discounted entry to the city's sights.

  • Transport: unlimited metro, buses, trams (tram 28 included) and trains, says the official card page; card sellers list the CP lines to Sintra and Cascais, each about 40 minutes from the centre, as included. Confirm in the card's guide when you collect it. Lisbon's funiculars and the Santa Justa lift have been out of service since September 2025.
  • Free entry: among others the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower (both need a booked time slot) and São Jorge Castle (free except for children aged 13–15).
  • Discounts: for example 15% off the Oceanário and 20% off Lisbon Cathedral, plus 5–50% off tours, cruises, fado shows and shops.

Lisboa Card price in 2026

Prices valid from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027:

  • 24 hours: €31 adult, €21 child (4–15)
  • 48 hours: €51 adult, €28 child
  • 72 hours: €62 adult, €35 child

Is the Lisboa Card worth it?

It depends on how much you pack into each day. A worked example for one adult on a 24-hour card (€31): a 24-hour transport ticket alone costs €7.25, and the GetYourGuide prices for the Jerónimos Monastery (from €18) and Belém Tower (from €15) add up to €33 more. Visit both on the same day and ride the tram there and back, and the card has paid for itself; add São Jorge Castle and you are well ahead.

It is not worth it if you are mostly walking, eating and joining guided tours, or if you only want one monument. The 72-hour card works out cheapest per day (about €21) for a three-day stay that includes the train to Sintra.

Tickets for Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery

Belém's two UNESCO monuments sit a short walk apart along the river. Both use timed entry, which is why visitors with a ticket can still queue: you join the line for your slot, and slots fill up in high season. Book a specific time online, arrive at the start of it, and do the monastery first in the morning, before the tour coaches.

Both are closed on Mondays, so plan Belém for another day. Lisboa Card holders have free entry but must book a time slot after exchanging their voucher for the card.

Oceanarium, castle and other Lisbon tickets

Oceanarium Lisbon tickets: the Oceanário is in Parque das Nações in the east of the city, a short metro ride from the centre. A pre-booked ticket skips the ticket line, and Lisboa Card holders get 15% off.

São Jorge Castle: the castle crowns the hill above Alfama. Buy ahead in summer; the castle is free with the Lisboa Card.

Lisbon tram tickets

A single ticket bought on board a tram costs €3.30 in 2026. If you will ride more than twice, the 24-hour Carris and Metro ticket (€7.25) or the Lisboa Card is better value. Tram 28 runs from Martim Moniz through Graça, Alfama and Chiado to Campo de Ourique.

Santa Justa Elevator tickets

The Santa Justa Elevator has been closed since September 2025, and as of September 2026 no reopening date had been confirmed. Check carris.pt before you plan around it.

How to skip the queues with timed tickets

  1. Book a time slot, then arrive at its start

Jerónimos and Belém Tower let in each slot in turn. Arriving at the start of your slot means the shortest wait, even with a ticket.

  2. Do Belém on a weekday morning, not Monday

Both monuments close on Mondays and the coach groups arrive from late morning.

  3. Exchange the card voucher early

An online Lisboa Card is a voucher. Swap it for the card at an Ask Me Lisboa desk (airport arrivals, Praça do Comércio or Cais do Sodré) before you try to book Belém slots.

  4. Count your sights before buying the card

Two big included sights plus transport on the same day usually cover the 24-hour price. One monument and a walking day do not.

  5. Mind the refund rules

Several tickets here, including Jerónimos, Belém Tower and the Lisboa Card, are not free to cancel. Only the castle tour with guide and the stadium tour are.

  6. Check before planning Santa Justa

The Santa Justa lift has been closed since September 2025. Check carris.pt for news before you build a day around it.
