Things to Do at Night in Lisbon: 6 Picks

Lisbon's rooftops and streets lit at dusk under a dark blue sky with orange glow on the horizon, the 25 de Abril Bridge on the left

You have the days planned and want to know how to spend the evenings. The best things to do at night in Lisbon are a fado show, a sunset boat cruise, the viewpoints at Santa Catarina and Amoreiras, and the bars of Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré, and the Metro and the night buses get you home.

Lisbon's evenings split into planned things and loose things. This list starts with the ones you book, then the viewpoints, then the neighbourhoods, then the way home. Each one comes with its hours and its price where a source gives them.

Hours below come from Turismo de Lisboa, Metro de Lisboa, Carris and the ferry operator Transtejo Soflusa, read on 21 October 2026. Check them for your date.

1. Fado: best for hearing Lisbon's own music

Fado is Lisbon's sung music. Two shows suit a visitor who wants to book ahead. The fado show with a glass of wine takes 50 minutes and costs from €15. Its page lists live fado by male and female singers, a glass of Port or Moscatel, and a spoken explanation of each song and of the instruments. It is run by Trova Colossal, LDA, and you choose one of two venues when you book, one in the Sé with stone walls and one in the Baixa that is step-free and wheelchair accessible. It is explained in Portuguese and English, seats are first come, first served, and it is not suitable for children under 6. It is rated 4.8 from 7,377 reviews, and it can be cancelled for free until 24 hours before. Prices and ratings as shown on GetYourGuide on 21 October 2026.

For a longer evening, the fado night with dinner takes 2.5 hours and costs from €60. It serves a traditional Portuguese dinner at Mesa de Frades, a former chapel with 18th-century tiles on the Fado Route at Rua dos Remédios 139A. Drinks are not included. Acordesoltos, Lda runs it, for groups of up to 38, and its page says it is not suitable for wheelchair users. It is rated 4.3 from 626 reviews. Neither page states a start time, so check the slot when you book.

Things to Do in Lisbon's count of GetYourGuide listings in October 2026 found 22 fado listings. The fado show with wine was the only one with bookings the day before our 19 October count, 52, and no other fado listing showed any.

To go to a fado house yourself, our Alfama guide lists houses with their opening hours and Turismo de Lisboa's price range of €20 to €50 for the fado houses there, against €15 for the show with wine and €60 for the dinner above. That page also says the Fado Museum is the daytime option. Our page on fado shows and dinners in Lisbon compares the formats.

2. A sunset boat party: best for a loud night on the river

The sunset boat party cruise takes 2 to 4 hours and costs from €25. Its page lists a DJ, an open bar with white wine, beer, sangria and soft drinks, a bathroom and life jackets. It runs on the Tagus and is rated 4.5 from 14,262 reviews. Stern Wind Cruises Lda runs it, for groups of up to 100, and free cancellation runs until 24 hours before.

The boat is a party, not a sightseeing cruise, and its page calls it a floating disco on the river. The meeting point depends on the option you pick and is shown when you check availability. Be there 30 to 40 minutes before departure, and expect a €1.30 boarding tax at check-in. Pick it if you want a social evening, and pick another cruise if you want commentary.

Hotel pick-up is not included. The page says it is not suitable for under-18s, pregnant women or wheelchair users.

The table shows what each of the three pages states and what it leaves out. None of them prints a fixed start time, because start times appear only when you check availability for a date. For the dinner, no age limit is stated.

3. Santa Catarina, São Pedro de Alcântara and the rooftops: best for the view at dusk

The Miradouro de Santa Catarina is a wide terrace with a statue of Adamastor. Turismo de Lisboa says younger people come to watch the sunset with music, conversation and beer, into the evening and into the night. The page lists no hours and no fee, and no stop.

The Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara is a garden terrace beside the top of the Elevador da Glória, with a view of Avenida da Liberdade, Baixa and the castle. Carris lists the Glória funicular as out of service, so you walk up.

Two hotel terraces are the rooftop options Turismo de Lisboa lists. The Hotel Mundial's rooftop bar is on Praça Martim Moniz and looks at the castle, the river and the Baixa, and the page says its sunset parties are famous among locals in summer. The Altis Avenida terrace, at Rua 1º Dezembro 120, combines a bar and a restaurant above Avenida da Liberdade. Neither page publishes hours, so phone before you go. Martim Moniz is on the Metro's Green line.

The Miradouro da Graça has a café and is reached by tram 28, according to Turismo de Lisboa, which gives no closing time for it either.

Sunset moves through the year, so check the time for your date.

4. Amoreiras 360 Panoramic View: best for a night view you can plan

The Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View is a viewing platform on top of the Amoreiras Shopping Center, 174 metres above sea level. Turismo de Lisboa lists it as open every day from 10:00 to 22:00. It names Belém Tower, the Estrela Basilica, the Sé, the 25 de Abril Bridge and Cristo Rei among the views.

Tickets are sold at the information desk on the first floor or on its website, and Turismo de Lisboa shows a €1 discount with the Lisboa Card. No page we opened gives the ticket price, so check the website before you go. It is the one viewpoint in this list with fixed hours and a ticket.

The address is Avenida Duarte Pacheco. Turismo de Lisboa gives no Metro or bus stop for it.

A viewpoint you have to queue for is only worth it if the sky is clear.

5. Bairro Alto, Bica and Cais do Sodré: best for a night out

Turismo de Lisboa describes how a night out in Lisbon moves. It begins in Bairro Alto with its bars and restaurants, heads down to Bica with a drink in hand, and ends in Cais do Sodré, where the most popular nightclubs are. Cais do Sodré also has Pink Street, which it describes as full of bars and restaurants.

For getting there, the Metro's Baixa Chiado station is on the Blue and Green lines, and Metro lists tram 28E and the Bica funicular there. The Cais do Sodré station is on the Green line, with trams 15E, 18E and 25E and the Cascais line trains. Both stations are open from 06:30 to 01:00.

Each bar sets its own hours, inside limits the city council publishes. The regulation published on 28 October 2016 splits Lisbon into Zone A, with closing limits, and Zone B, with free hours. In Zone A, restaurants, cafés and taverns may open between 06:00 and 02:00. Bars and pubs may open between 12:00 and 02:00 from Sunday to Thursday, and until 03:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves. Clubs, fado houses the council has recognised and bars that meet its security conditions may open between 12:00 and 04:00.

Terraces follow the hours of their venue, unless the council restricts them. The text also lets the council ban taking drinks into the street from 01:00 in named areas. The zone map is an image and the 2024 amendment (Regulamento n.º 449/2024) could not be opened here, so we cannot say which streets are in Zone A or what has changed since. Ask for the price before you sit down, because no official price list exists for any venue.

6. The way home: Metro to 01:00, night buses after

Plan the return before you go out. Metro de Lisboa's timetable page says it opens at 6:30 and closes at 1:00 every day, and that you can travel to any station on your line if you board before 1:00.

After that, Carris runs its night network. Its general conditions say the Rede da Madrugada operates from Monday to Sunday between 23:30 and 5:35. On Carris's route list, lines 201, 202, 206, 207, 208 and 210 are tagged as part of it and start at Cais do Sodré. Carris publishes no frequency we could find, so ask at the stop or check its app.

For the south bank, TTSL's timetable shows weekday boats leaving Cacilhas from 05:00 until after 02:00. Our guide to Lisbon metro tickets covers the card, the fares and the ferry.

Key Takeaway Only Amoreiras 360 lists a closing time, 22:00, while the Metro closes at 01:00 and the night buses run from 23:30 to 5:35.

Is it worth booking or going on your own? The answer depends on the kind of night.

For fado, book if you want a fixed price and a set start, because the show with wine is from €15 and the dinner from €60. Go on your own if you want a fado house in Alfama, where Turismo de Lisboa gives €20 to €50 and does not say what that includes, so ask the price and whether a table is held before you sit. For the boat, book, because it is a ticketed party with a set departure. For bars and viewpoints, go on your own. They need no ticket, the cost is what you order, and the risk is the one the UK government describes below, so plan your way home first.

Safety matters more at night. The UK government's travel advice says attacks are rare but that the risk is highest late at night around popular nightlife locations. It tells you to buy your own drinks and keep them in sight, and to call 112 in an emergency. It also says thieves use distraction techniques and often work in teams on public transport and at crowded stops.

Pro Tip Decide your way home before the first drink. If you will leave after 00:30, walk to a Metro station while it is still open, or note a Carris night line from Cais do Sodré.

When a booked night is the wrong choice

A booked night is the wrong choice if you want to decide at the last minute. All three bookings need a slot, and the boat party is loud and runs for up to four hours. If you want quiet, a viewpoint and a walk cost less than any of them.

Book a fado night or a sunset boat party

The fado show with wine, at one of two venues, takes 50 minutes and costs from €15, the fado night with dinner takes 2.5 hours and costs from €60, and the sunset boat party takes 2 to 4 hours and costs from €25 with an open bar. All three can be cancelled for free up to 24 hours before. Prices and ratings as shown on GetYourGuide on 21 October 2026.

Is Lisbon safe at night?

The UK government says attacks, including sexual assaults, are rare but do occur, and that the risk is highest late at night around popular nightlife locations. It advises buying your own drinks and keeping them in sight, and calling 112 in an emergency. It also warns about street crime and thieves who work in teams on public transport and at crowded stops.

Until what time does the Lisbon metro run?

The Metro opens at 6:30 and closes at 1:00 every day, including weekends and holidays. You can travel to any station on the same line if you board before 1:00.

How do you get home after the Metro closes?

Carris runs a night network, the Rede da Madrugada, every day between 23:30 and 5:35. Several of its lines start at Cais do Sodré, including 201, 202, 206, 207, 208 and 210. Weekday ferries from Cacilhas to Cais do Sodré also run until after 02:00.

What time do restaurants and bars open and close in Lisbon?

Under the city council's regulation of 2016, in Zone A restaurants and cafés may open between 06:00 and 02:00, bars and pubs between 12:00 and 02:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 03:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves, and clubs and recognised fado houses between 12:00 and 04:00. Zone B has free hours. The council can restrict individual venues and terraces, and a 2024 amendment exists whose text we could not open.

Where can I hear live fado in Lisbon and what does it cost?

The fado show with wine is from €15 and takes place at one of two venues, in the Sé or the Baixa. The fado dinner is from €60 at Mesa de Frades, a former chapel at Rua dos Remédios 139A. Turismo de Lisboa lists fado houses in Alfama at €20 to €50, without saying what that includes.

Where are the best rooftop bars and sunset spots in Lisbon?

Turismo de Lisboa lists the rooftop bar of the Hotel Mundial at Martim Moniz and the Altis Avenida hotel terrace on Rua 1º Dezembro, and the viewpoints of Santa Catarina, São Pedro de Alcântara and Graça. None of those pages publishes opening hours. Amoreiras 360 is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00.

Should I book a fado, boat or bar night, or go on my own?

Book the fado show or dinner for a fixed price and start, from €15 or €60. Go on your own for an Alfama fado house at €20 to €50, but ask what that includes. Book the boat party, which has a set departure, and go on your own for bars and viewpoints, which need no ticket. Going on your own costs only what you order, and the UK government warns that the risk is highest late at night around popular nightlife locations.

How long does a fado show last?

The fado show with a glass of wine takes 50 minutes. The fado night with dinner takes 2.5 hours. Their GetYourGuide pages do not give a start time, so check the time you choose when you book.

Which Lisbon viewpoints are open at night?

Is a fado tour worth it, or should I go on my own?

Booking a show gives you a fixed price and a seat. Turismo de Lisboa's pages for four Alfama fado houses give €20 to €50, without saying what that includes, while the show with wine is from €15. Going on your own gives you more choice of house and a later night, but you must book and ask the price first.

Is the sunset boat party a good way to see Lisbon at night?

It is a party first. The page lists a DJ, an open bar of white wine, beer, sangria and soft drinks, a bathroom and life jackets, over 2 to 4 hours. It is rated 4.5 from 14,262 reviews, and it does not describe a guided tour of the sights.

Conclusion

Pick one fixed plan a night and leave the rest loose. Book the fado or the boat, or walk to a viewpoint at sunset, and finish in Bairro Alto or Cais do Sodré. Leave before the Metro closes at 01:00 or know which night bus you will take, and follow the UK government's advice to buy your own drinks and keep them in sight.
