Lisbon Faro Train Tickets: Times and Fares

A whitewashed church with a stone cross and an orange-tiled roof under a deep blue sky in the old town of Faro

Planning a day or two in the Algarve, you want the train facts first. Lisbon Faro train tickets cost €24.55 in second class on an Intercidades and €26.30 in the cheaper Turística class on the Alfa Pendular, and the fastest train takes 3 hours. Five trains a day run each way, and every one needs a seat reservation.

You want one train, one price and one seat. This guide gives you the timetable, the fare, the station and the other trains you might mean. The last step helps you decide whether a day tour is faster.

Times and fares below come from CP files read on 21 October 2026.

Step 1: Pick your train from Lisbon to Faro

CP's timetable for Porto, Lisbon, Faro and Lagos has been in force since 19 July 2026. It lists five trains from Lisboa Oriente to Faro, and all run daily. The two Alfa Pendular trains (AP) are the fastest.

Alfa Pendular 18417:2320:233 h 0 min
Intercidades 57418:3222:023 h 30 min

Coming back, the same file lists trains from Faro at 07:00, 09:15, 14:15, 16:00 and 18:15. They reach Lisboa Oriente at 10:05, 12:56, 17:56, 19:05 and 21:56.

Key Takeaway Alfa Pendular 180 leaves Lisboa Oriente at 08:23 and reaches Faro at 11:27, and a same-day return on Intercidades 674 at 18:15 gives you 6 hours 48 minutes in Faro.

Every train is marked with mandatory seat reservation in CP's key. The two Alfa Pendular trains add a cafeteria and bar, and the three Intercidades also carry bicycles. CP also warns that connections are only guaranteed in normal operating conditions.

A train timetable is a promise about the middle of the journey, not about the ends.

Step 2: Buy your Lisbon Faro train tickets

You buy on cp.pt, in the CP app or at a ticket machine, and the seat reservation is mandatory. CP's Promo page lists the online ticket office, the app and the machines.

Prices below are from CP's TP 2026 tables, valid from 1 January 2026, for Lisboa Oriente, Entrecampos or Sete Rios to Faro.

TicketSingleReturn
Intercidades, second class€24.55€44.50
Intercidades, first class€32.15€58.00
Alfa Pendular, Turística€26.30€47.50
Alfa Pendular, Conforto€35.10€63.50

Pro Tip CP also lists an Alfa+IC return in Turística at €46.00, which is €1.50 less than an Alfa Pendular return at €47.50, for a trip that mixes the two train types.

Return tickets on Intercidades need a minimum distance of 91 km, which Faro easily passes. CP's file says the 50% columns are rounded up to the next 50 cents.

Promo tickets are the way to pay less. The CP page says tickets bought 5 to 7 days ahead can cost up to 56% less, and tickets bought 8 or more days ahead up to 65% less, on a limited number of seats. Its footnote says up to 25%, so check the real price in the CP app. A CP campaign dated 29 September 2026 offered Lisbon to Faro from €5.50 for travel until 28 October. You had to buy 10 days ahead, and the sale has closed.

Step 3: Go to the right Lisbon station

All five trains leave from Lisboa Oriente. Oriente Metro station is on the Red line, next to the intermodal station, and its page lists the CP lines for Sintra, Azambuja and the North. The Alfa Pendular also stops at Entrecampos eight minutes later, where the Yellow line station links to CP trains.

The Intercidades call at Sete Rios and Pragal too. The Metro's Jardim Zoológico page for the Blue line lists CP trains on the Sul line, though it does not name Sete Rios. Check which station your ticket names before you go.

Step 4: Check the other trains you might mean

Many people who search for Faro want somewhere else on the line or the coast. This table shows what CP's files give.

Évora: CP's Évora timetable, in force since 6 September 2026, lists weekday trains from Lisboa Oriente at 07:02, 09:02 and 13:35, a weekend train at 09:58 and a daily train at 17:02. They reach Évora between 1 h 38 and 1 h 45 later. The second-class single is €13.90 and the return €25.50.

Cascais: the Linha de Cascais timetable, in force since 6 April 2026, shows the first weekday train leaving Cais do Sodré at 05:30 and reaching Cascais at 06:10. In late morning it leaves every 20 minutes. The last weekday train listed leaves at 01:30. The urban price sheet gives €5.10 for a Lisboa to Cascais return.

Fátima has no station at the Sanctuary. A page the Sanctuary wrote for the 2017 papal visit says no train station is near Fátima, and names Chão de Maçãs, about 25 km away, and Caxarias. The same site says buses run almost every hour between Lisbon and Fátima, with a terminal about 100 metres from the basilica. It gives no fare, so check the bus operator.

Step 5: Compare the train with the bus

The bus is the other way to Faro, and the numbers favour it on price and on choice of departures. FlixBus's Lisbon to Faro page says the fastest trip takes 3 hours 15 minutes and that there are 22 buses a day. The first leaves at 01:45 and the last at 20:10. Tickets start at €4.48, and the page says times and prices vary by date.

The buses leave from Gare do Oriente (platform D), the Sete Rios bus terminal or the stop in front of the zoo entrance. They arrive at Faro's Alfândega, on Avenida da República. The train is quicker: CP's fastest run is 3 hours, against 3 hours 15 minutes, and the Alfa Pendular has a cafeteria. The bus has many more departures, five trains against 22 buses, and its lowest fare is about a fifth of the €24.55 train fare. We quote the lowest fare, not a price for a date, so look at your own day on both sites. Rede Expressos shows its times only after a search, so we give none.

Step 6: Decide whether a day tour is faster

For Faro itself the train wins. Things to Do in Lisbon's count of GetYourGuide listings in October 2026 found 4 Algarve day trips from Lisbon, from €89 to €156 per person. The three that state their length run 10 to 12 hours, while the fastest train takes 3 hours each way.

A tour makes sense when you want somewhere without a station. CP's file lists Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Tunes, Albufeira-Ferreiras, Loulé and Faro, and no station for Benagil or Carvoeiro. The Algarve day trip with Benagil, Carvoeiro and Lagos costs from €89. It runs 10 to 11 hours with transport in an air-conditioned vehicle and a driver who acts as guide. It meets at the Hard Rock Cafe Lisbon, and lunch is not included. Its rating is 5.0 from 325 reviews.

The Algarve adventures day trip with Benagil Cave boat tour costs from €156. It lasts 11 to 12 hours and offers hotel, airport and cruise-port pickup. The kayak tour in the cave is not included, says its page. It is rated 4.8 from 1,214 reviews.

For Fátima, the Fátima, Nazaré, Óbidos and Batalha full day costs from €31 and lasts 10 hours. It includes transport, a certified guide and pickup, and excludes lunch and entrance fees. It has a rating of 4.8 from 2,133 reviews.

For Cascais, the Sintra, Pena, Regaleira, Boca do Inferno and Cascais day trip costs from €19. It lasts 9 to 10 hours and meets at Praça dos Restauradores. The visits to Sintra's monuments are self-guided with free time. Reviewers give it 4.5 from 383 reviews.

When a tour is the wrong choice

A tour is the wrong choice if you just want to reach Faro. The train is cheaper and shorter, and you choose your own hours. It is also the wrong choice if you want to stay overnight, because the day tours return the same evening. Évora and Cascais are easy by train, and the tour only adds Sintra or Fátima.
